Playtime: 11h.

I had fun watching the cutscenes. The story is well written, the main characters have just enough depth to be captivating, and the plot unravels in a satisfactory, if sometimes predictable, manner.

The “dispatch” part of the game, which is really the only “game” part of it, is fun. Managing your roster of heroes, trying to figure out which hero (or group of) is best for a task, and how to translate the mission’s requirements to stats, seeing synergy develop between them, all of that are fun game mechanics.

I even saw myself replaying some dispatch bits to get a good enough success rate. But it all fell apart when I realized that… none of it mattered? Seriously, I don’t think how well/bad you do influences the rest of the gameplay or story.

Even the choices feel mostly meaningless. I think there are a few of them that matter and alter your experience and ending. The rest is just there to make you feel like you have agency.

Just like “playing” The Medium felt like reading a multimedia book, “playing” Dispatch felt like watching a (good!) short series.

I didn’t get all the hype on this one, honestly. Still, it was entertaining.
